A pair of large vanities flanks the sides of the main portion of the bathroom. The bases were painted in the same hue as the walls, and are punctuated by geometric hardware. A taupe-green finish on the hardware provides a slight, yet not glaring, contrast. Abundant drawer storage for bath necessities was incorporated into each vanity, which presented a challenge for the design team who had to plan each drawer to work around the existing plumbing.
Crisp white Calacatta marble was used on the vanity countertops to add contrast to the soft taupe hues featured throughout the rest of the room. Contemporary-style sink hardware was chosen to add a modern touch to the predominantly traditional vanity areas. Shimmering stainless-steel finishes add sparkle and a hint of understated glamour.
The floor's marble tile was the inspiration for the room's taupe and white color palette. A band of crisp white marble creates a visual area rug and ties in the vanities' white countertops. If you've decided on incorporating a colored or highly patterned marble into your flooring or countertops, make sure you limit that color elsewhere to emphasize the surface's beauty.
Mixing Styles: Privacy, Please
A narrow hallway that opens up to the main portion of the bathroom houses the shower and water closet. The rich marble tile used on the floor was extended up the walls throughout the shower space, creating a distinctive and dramatic look. The frosted band on the glass shower door -- as well as on the toilet enclosure directly opposite -- adds privacy without making the space feel tight or confined.
